Collective Data Reporting

Currently a lot of the responsibility around data privacy rests on individuals, needing to click through privacy policies and questions around cookies and data collection. With devices and apps being run by large corporations and organisations, it can be challenging to understand what you are agreeing to and sometimes it does not feel you have choice in how your data is collected and used. In response to this the agency will partner with a national regulator to set up a collective reporting process to support people with collecting data and evidence around data privacy issues.

This service aims to use collective power to support people to engage and combat organisations or corporations who are not being responsible with people’s data. Working in collaboration with local community groups/charities, the agency and local community members will identify specific data issues or organisations and work with community members to collect data to help build a case around the issue. The agency will work on behalf of the local community to decide on an effective way to combat the data issue, either approaching the organisation directly, looking for support from the local council, exposure through media and journalists, or lobbying policy makers.

Please add to the collective reporting action by adding important data privacy issues or your own personal experience here.
