Know Your Data!

The ‘Know Your data!’ service is a peer-led development programme that supports people in learning how to take control of their data and how to set their personal data privacy boundaries. In partnership with a national regulator, the service will offer interactive learning sessions where people can learn about their data rights, privacy-enhancing practices and tools, alongside new and current technologies. The sessions are developed in collaboration between the agency and local community organisations, ensuring they are accessible, suit the needs of the community and are available in relevant languages.

The sessions will be led by volunteers who have undertaken data awareness training which prepares them to teach others about the subject. The aim of growing the programme through volunteers is to develop a community of people who are informed and confident with their data privacy, and are empowered to pass their knowledge and experience forward.

The agency will also develop a ‘Know Your Data!’ radio show which hosts interviews with data privacy experts, providing useful information on how to improve your privacy, interviews with people sharing their personal experiences, and reporting on new technologies and data risks. The radio show also offers a ‘call in’ session where people can ring in with questions or concerns about their data, data protection or privacy issues.
